Strut, USA was officially opened in 1986 by Lynn B. Schmitz. Until that time, Mz Lynn was teaching baton and dance throughout the Birmingham and Gadsden areas at dance studios , schools and recreation centers while furthering her training in the arts. After opening the doors to 37 students in Alabama City, Strut, USA is now blessed with over 200 students in all areas of the arts.
The curriculum includes not only tap, ballet, jazz and baton twirling, but also voice, musical theatre, "Krunk Kids" (age appropriate Hip Hop), clogging, lyrical, contemporary, praise/worship dance, and choreography for numerous majorette, dancelines, color guards and theatre productions. In addition, Strut, USA teaches workshops for after school programs, special needs children, girl scouts and more.
As "second in command" to Mz Lynn,
we are honored to have Ms Liara Steward who hails from Birmingham, AL. She is known for her outstanding choreography in Tap, Clogging and Jazz as well as ballet, pointe, and lyrical. She has been dancing for 23 years. Liara attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts and majored in Dance. She was trained there by the celebrated team of Dame Sonia Arova, former Prima Ballerina, and the director of the Alabama Ballet Co., and her famous husband, dancer and internationally known choreographer, Thor Sutowski. She also studied under Wes Chapman, the previous Artistic Director of the Alabama Ballet.
All instructors at Strut, USA are properly trained in their areas of expertise with most instructors having in excess of 10 years training. Please visit our staff page for more information.
